I am taking some risk by setting up this presentation. The pictures and actual meat rows at the Cuzco food market are very graphic. I will start by mentioning that I am a vegetarian. Somehow I didn’t feel disgusted by the scenery, I was amazed how clean the place is, there weren’t the mass clouds of flies as I anticipated to see. I saw an abundance of tasty goodies there. The market place was loud, colorful and vibrant. People were setting their goodies, negotiating, smiling. The small kids were running in the aisles from one vendor to another, probably seeing the relatives or the other children to play with. The whole atmosphere was bright and healthy. In the meat aisle I noticed a dog pilfered a juicy piece of meat off the counter while the girl was chatting with her friends.
Love the toothy fish (fish, right?)
Oh, No! Those are sheep heads! 🙂 Scary, right?
Ah yes, the Latin American market! Glad it was clean.
What are those grinning stack of buggers??
Your photos are beautiful!
Ha-ha, I was afraid to ask:) Apparently, people consume that somehow:)
This market reminds me to the ones in El Salvador… Similar ways to sell meat!
These photos are super. I do not mind them at all, you have shown us how it is and I imagine the local food is excellent. 🙂
This is how meat is sold in India as well! The butcher is busy chopping even as you buy the meat. Although, in India, one cannot promise the absence of flies. 🙂
Good to see nothing is wasted – post-BSE (mad cow disease) we’re all a bit precious in getting our meat overlycut, wrapped and sealed. Great post
I shudder to think what possible culinary use a cow snout might have 😛
Interesting images! Not a lettuce in sight 🙂
Yikes … and I thought my chicken foot photo was bad…
Right? I was trying to redeem myself by throwing a couple of shots of the flower corner at the market:)
Wow. I’ve never seen a meat market lie that! I’d be a vegetarian too! lol Your photography was awesome but the meat was scary. I brought my 14 year old daughter in here to see how other countries live. This was really cool! 🙂
