I love the both the unique appearance of this tropical fruit as well as its taste. Rambutan originates from South Asia and now grows everywhere in the country. I believe it has different name in Costa Rica- Mamon China, but the look and the taste is absolutely the same. You might find it at any asian market in the States. It tastes as the lychee (another Southern Asian fruit, or if I try to bring the closest conventional fruit taste to compare it would be a green plum), but that spiky skin is what makes rambutan look so exotic.
