The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France is located on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 and the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II.
Normandy American Cemetery sits on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach and the English Channel, east of St. Laurent-sur-Mer and northwest of Bayeux in Colleville-sur-Mer, 170 miles west of Paris.

Beautiful photograph, but sad. All those lives lost – and for what? So our leaders can still send young people into fight the wars instigated by politicians while they continue to pontificate from the safety of their governmental headquarters, far away from the conflict they have created.
